Catfish Noodling is not your usual get comfy on the river banks or in your boat with a six pack and your favorite catfishing rigs and baits. When the average person thinks about the sport of Catfishing, the farthest thing from their mind is to actually jump into the water and catch them bare handed. So it's the family he's trying to protect. Catfish are quite aggressive aquatic creatures. Although you do still need to bring along a couple of catfishing buddies for safety sake.

This is the sport of Catfish Noodling. After the female lays her eggs in the nest, the male chases her off and then sets up a guard post, watching after them. In fact you don't need a boat or even a fishing pole.

I'll bet your thinking, "Oh sure, sounds easy, just reach down into that brown murky water you can't see in and just pull up a fish." But Catfish Noodling is actually a very difficult and dangerous sport to.

You see, a Noodler simply wades into the water and gropes around looking for a hidey hole and all the while waiting for a catfish to jump out and snatch his hand away.
