What if we don't want to take artificial hormones. Birth control pills are not a safe enough option for my taste. I changed my diet, I exercised more often, I got into the as safely as possible. These days it seems there is always another hormone related birth control pill or other that claims to regulate our periods, cure PMS and PMDD, a more severe form of PMS.
These things did help, but they did not cure my PMS. Male comics often joke about women being a bit absent minded, cranky, grouchy, and having mood swings during the week before menstruation. Obviously, they have no idea how discomforting this situation is for women, or how frustrating and annoying it can actually be. They even have the nerve to joke about bloating and cramps and headaches related to PMS.
What if we cannot take artificial hormones for medical reasons. I fall into both those categories. I am thirty five years old, and hormone related breast cancer runs in my family.
Premenstrual Syndrome has been the butt of jokes for many years. I tried all kinds of things to help regulate my periods and my mood. |
