Also just because the genes are in the family it does not mean it will effect everyone in the family, after all it is not uncom to see two brothers, one that is bald and the other with a full head of hair. Now DHT is not, as most people think, the actual cause of baldness itself because if this were the staford nobody would have any hair. Hair weaves and hair transplants are commonly known treatments, although for a lot of people they are not an option.
Genetic Hair Loss - Is There a Solution. The correct term for male/female pattern baldness is Androgenetic Alopecia and this is caused when testosterone combines with an enzyme in the scalp and creates DHT (dihydrotestosterone). Genetic hair loss as you will have already guessed is hereditary, however it was once thought to be just from the maternal genes, but in fact you can inherit it from either parent. What happens is DHT attaches itself to the follicle of the hair and thins it out until it no longer produces hair, but this only occurs to people who are genetically designed to be effected by DHT. As of yet there no known permanent cures, but there are some treatments that can be performed. |
