Before your surgery you may have thought nothing about downing a few beers or several glasses of wine. Past and current drinkers can benefit from bariatric. Many alcohol abusers that stop drinking have a lack of vitamins and minerals. But your body is different now and how your metabolism handles alcohol is quite different. A glass of wine or one mixed drink may not sound like much to drink but if you've had bariatric surgery you may want to think twice before you imbibe.

A good bariatric diet includes foods high in nutrients and does not include alcoholic beverages. Knowing that your body now reacts differently to alcohol should be a deterrent from consuming alcohol. You could be lacking Vitamin B12, zinc, magnesium, thiamine and folate. The affects of alcohol on your system may be quite different from people who haven't had weight loss surgery. If you still choose to have a drink be extremely careful and delegate driving to a "designated driver." If you were a drinker before your bariatric surgery it is possible that you experienced withdrawal symptoms when you stopped drinking.

You may not have felt the effects of alcohol after having just one or two.
