Studies are few, and have not adequately shown relevant links between skin sensitivity and any particular demographic. More commonly, allergic reactions manifest as skin conditions often referred to as "sensitive skin." "Sensitive skin," is a catchall term for disruptive skin conditions mediated by immune system response to allergens or irritants, or other factors like extremes in climate. Severe allergic responses can result in gastric, respiratory or other acute distress. While certain disease states like asthma may predispose a person to skin conditions, predictors of why some experience skin sensitivity and others do not appear to be limited. Women report greater skin sensitivity than men, but this difference may be attributable to the ratio of health and beauty products.
