Mint was used as a strewing herb for centuries and was one of the tithing herbs from the bible. Peppermint is used for the treatment of digestive problems like nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia, flatulent colic and diarrhoea. Rumour has it that if your mint thrives, so will your finances. This makes it good for treating colds, flu and headaches. It has a cool taste but it creates internal heat and increases perspiration. Magic Mint Mint (Mentha) is an invasive plant that prefers to grow in full sun. Peppermint (Mentha x piperita), is a hirsch between spearmint and wild water mint and was first noted in England in 1696. There are many varieties of mint and it is a popular culinary herb.
Mint is useful for repelling ants, black flea beetles, cabbage moth, aphids, clothes moths and flies. It has a cool taste and a fresh smell, which makes it popular in toothpastes, cigarettes and sweets. The steam from boiling water with Peppermint oil can be inhaled to ease bronchitis and catarrh. It is best to grow it in a container as it can take over the garden if it is not kept under control. |
